Freedom and Independence in Education

Posted in Uncategorized by jem107 on the April 15th, 2009

What comes out of the freedom and independence allotted to homeschoolers?

  1. Confidence
  2. Self-assuredness
  3. Learning at their own pace
  4. Discovering their interests
  5. Looking to the future
  6. Knowledge of who they are

Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer state in their book:
The Well Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home

“By the time the student reaches high school, he’s looking at a future that will probably be spent in family life, work, and community involvement. Doesn’t it make sense to spend your training time with these emerging young adults preparing them for the real life they’re getting ready to enter?” (592).

What are the roles of the parents in all of this?

It is simple:
Guide the students in their education while making sure that they take the necessary steps to becoming great leaders, workers, and good parents, husbands or wives.

As a side note… There are many books, articles, journals and magazines out there pertaining to homeschooling all the way from how to go about getting started to what homeschoolers have done after they succesfully completed their home education.
